Unfortunately, I was only able to come out for a few hours - from 2:30 to 6:30. I sat through the presentation on Views 2 and Panels 2, moderated the discussion on Drupal for political campaigns and non-profits, and was there for dinner. I'd used Panels 2 when it was buggier than it is now, and I was excited to get to hear the talk on it. And the stuff on Views 2 was great. It was a lot to pack into an hour, especially for modules not quite ready yet and without a lot of experience on yet, but it was great.
As someone who has helped put together a lot of trainings/conferences and attended many, I thought this went really well. You'd have thought the organizers were doing it for years.
The only problems I ran into were trying to type in my lap (which I hate - should've brought my laptop table) and a really slow internet connection. I wanted to show more in our session, but relied more on description instead since pages took too long to load.
I can't wait until we can hold another one of these. I've already heard from a lot of people who wished they could have attended. I wouldn't mind doing one of these just tailored to non-profits, campaigns, and community groups. That's a section we've been working hard to convert over to Drupal for the past few years. And the great thing is the people making the decisions for these groups are often heavily connected in various communities, such as the business community, and would be great allies for promoting Drupal to others.
I love the shirts. If anyone comes across one in an XL or larger, please let me know. I got there late, so all that was left was a medium. My hubby can wear it, but I'd love one for myself.
Maybe next time we could do some hands on work? Sessions early in the day going over what Views, CCK, or whatever can do, and then sessions later in the day where people actually work on their laptops with those modules.
I'd love to help plan and work on future events.
